Dr. Klein is very excited about the use of lasers in dentistry and has been using them in his practice since 2004.  Dental lasers have many uses in the modern dental practice, such as decay detection, decay removal and conservative gum surgery.  Dr. Klein currently uses 2 lasers in his practice:  the DIAGNOdent for decay detection and the VersaWave for decay removal.  The DIAGNOdent allows Dr. Klein to diagnose cavities in their earliest stage, often before they are detectable by x-rays or a dental explorer.  When cavities are treated early, less healthy tooth is destroyed by decay, leading to smaller, longer-lasting fillings.  This can reduce the need for more extensive and expensive treatment, like crowns and root canals, later in life.  Many early cavities can be treated painlessly without local anesthesia, especially when the VersaWave laser is used to remove the decay.  The VersaWave can selectively remove decay without aggressive removal of healthy tooth structure.  The VersaWave uses visible light energy to remove decay, eliminating the vibration and high-pitched whine the dental “drill”. Patients have been raving about this new technology!
